Facts about Cyprus

Cyprus is located in the Eastern Mediterranean south of Turkey, and is the most popular tourist destinations in the Mediterranean.  The third-largest island in the Mediterranean was formerly a British colony, but it later gained its independence from the United Kingdom, in the year 1960 and then became a Commonwealth Republic in 1961.

Cyprus is also known as “The playground of the Gods” because Aphrodite the Goddess of love is said to have risen from the sea near Paphos.

With its numerous coastal beaches and the stunning mountain ranges, an abundant 300 days of sunshine even during the winter months, with very little rainfall, Cyprus is a great tourist spot and its prosperous economy gets a major share of its income from the tourism sector. Hellium cheese, popularly called halloumi, is a product of this country.
